Patrice Cormier’s Dirty Hit
Tweet Posted by Mother Pucker on January 19th, 2010So here I am sitting at Original Joe’s trying to enjoy a healthy plate of nachos, wings, and some kind of beer that was on sale when the whole place pretty much gasps when this ‘highlight’ hit the screens. If you haven’t seen it yet, and people twitching bothers you then maybe don’t watch this and instead read my play by play:
Play is coming up the ice… Cormier comes off the bench and skates out there like he wants to kill someone… Cormier lays a vicious elbow on the head of opposing player, knocking him out and sending him into some kind of seizure… players rush him off the ice on the stretcher.
Now what is going to happen to this guy? Just a once off you think?
Just under a month ago at the World Junior Hockey Championships, Cormier was up to the same thing. And listen to that douchebag McGuire, “That was a lot of elbow! huh huh huh haha!”
I don’t know what penalty will come down for this ass clown, but whatever it is I think it has to be AT LEAST on par with what Michael Liambas got for his hit on Ben Fanelli earlier this season in the Ontario Hockey League. Though, with Cormier being the captain of the juniors this year, I think that it’s likely that politics will play a huge role in this guy’s future. He’s a star, he’s a leader, HE IS FUCKING CHEAP! I don’t care who you are, when you go out with pure intent to injure like that, AND SHOW A PATTERN OF SUCH BEHAVIOR, you are DONE in my book.
Yes, I am wound up…

Ok just read that Cormier has been placed on indefinite suspension. I will be very happy to read about at the low end a suspension for the rest of the season, and top end a lifetime ban from major junior hockey in Canada.
I think Cormier should recieve a worse suspension than Liambis. I felt the Liambis hit was just him playing fast, physical hockey. His intentions were not to injure Fanelli whereas Cormier obviously was out there with the intent to injure Tam. It’s very clear in the video he deliberately stuck his elbow up into Tam’s face. Plus he has prior history of doing the same thing! Ban him for life.
This guy is a fucking piece of shit for a hockey player. They should ban his ass for life and he can go back to working at Mcdonalds.
someone like that shouldnt even be able to have a chance at the NHL, because you know if he makes it there hes gonna do it again, hes done it twice now (and its not like the games arent televised) and he hasn’t learned his lesson yet, im glad he got suspended, and i hope he gets kicked out, im canadaian and i take pride in our sport, its guys like that who make other people call us headhunters
This type of garbage is ruining hockey.
There are only about 20 games left in their regular season, followed by the playoffs. Rimouski traded to get Cormier, and they’re now primed to represent the Q in the Memorial Cup tournament. That political angle will factor in to it as well.
If you ask me, 20 games plus the playoffs is not nearly enough. The trouble is, he’s probably done with Junior hockey and will either be in New Jersey or in the AHL next year. Neither league currently upholds suspensions, though they would do a great thing if they revised their policy to uphold suspensions from other leagues.
If it was me, I’d ban him from hockey in North America, but no body is enabled to levy such a penalty.
After his shameful performance at the World Juniors, someone should have had a talk with this kid. Maybe someone did, but the message didn’t get through. If that’s the case, then all the more reason to do whatever is necessary to keep him out of hockey forever. That sort of thing is not welcome, and his track record shows that he’s not going to quit any time soon.
I’m also quite worked up about this; my new website was launched on this very topic. Cormier deserves whatever punishment he gets. He went far beyond the acceptable limits of hockey. He was essentially a guided missle on the ice, with no respect, or regard for human safety. He has forfeited his right to earn money while playing hockey, in my opinion.
I truly believe Patrice needs to be charged to the full extent of the law, and even as far as setting an example to other players. Life suspension and jail as well as compensation to Anton and family for any loss incured through this disgusting act. What CAPTAIN or player acts with total disregard for another players well being and saftey? Hockey is suppose to be a sport and were the hell is consciencely and deliberately coming off a bench targeting the puck handler and emploding your elbow into that players temple. You intent is only to make sure that he does not EVER handle the puck again. What the hell is wrong with you Patrice?
It’s a dirty hit, but is 20 games + playoffs everything one would expect? Is this on the same level as McSorley and Bertuzzi? Should we suspend early and hard to ensure the habit doesn’t stick around at the higher levels?
I don’t know the answer. I do know that if you suspend this kid for the rest of his CHL career, you’re ending his life. Remember, CHL players have no marketable skills aside from playing hockey. They’re not like NCAA players who have a degree.
He’ll learn his lesson now, or he’ll be out of the NHL first time he tries this shit there. Besides, we only rap kids on the knuckles when they’re taken to court. He can learn from this and become a good, clean player. Will he? I don’t know.
I say 25 games tops.
If hockey leagues are not going to let players police themselves, then they have opened up the hockey world to be policed by someone else. It was a terrible elbow, much like all of the other criminal offenses that were deemed worthy of the law to step into and I truly believe that this is a product of the culture of hockey that has been created in the last ten years.
Cormier will have to take whatever punishment that is doled out to him, because no one is allowed to dish out any on the ice. I believe hockey leagues, both junior and pro, should take solid note of these incidents this year and fear that more are on the way.
There should be a greater challenge to the leagues to not only discipline their players, but get a feel of what the culture is today from both aging veterans and younger players. If the league isn’t going to change the culture of the game, then Cormier will have to receive an extra-strong punishment. Nothing that has happened, suspension-wise, in the past ten years, has done anything to dissuade players from making stupid decisions.
WE are ashame of the type of hockey that Cormier play
We are more ashame of the people allow him to play hockey professionally.
Hey guys I guess you guys dont know anything about sports, I bet you guys are so perfect maybe thats why u guys dont play! if u guys can’t find anything good to say well dont waste your time writing bad stuff about people! yes he did a mistake and he’s taking his punishment! its pissing me off when you judge someone u dont know! check the picture of the hit and not the video, he has his knees bent and his elbow level to Tam’s chess! You cant judge Patrice, cause they are so many hits like it that no one get hurt so bad and they only have a minor penalty! Worst of it Tam is playing again and a few game after starting back, he hit a guy from behind got suspended and everybody forgot about it! From what I know a checking from behind can cause someone to be parylize! But just because he didnt Tam is all forgoten! stop your bullshit and stop being selfish! people do mistake and you cant ruin a person’s life like that! People say put yourself in Tam’s shoes but thinking about it and then put yourself in Patrice shoes, all I got to say he’s tough! cause alot of guys would commit suicide just because of you, and its you the first to say your sorry after! Dont ruin Patrice for a big mistake, its a sport and you will never ever ever stop an accident! especialy hockey that is getting faster and faster, people do quick reactions! anyway all i mean is get a life
