NHL Ice Girls
Posted by Mother Pucker on October 23rd, 2008It appears that more and more teams are opting to have a team of Ice Girls to entertain the crowd by scraping the ice, giving out prizes, cheering, or whatever else they see fit. I have only seen the Dallas Stars’ Ice Girls live, and I think they only skated around with shovels during tv timeouts. There were maybe one or two fluid skaters, but the rest were obviously not too steady on a single blade. Regardless, they look good, and in my mind that’s all they are out there being paid for.
What is everyones take on the cheerleaders with ice skates on? Do you think they are necessary? Think you couldn’t live without them? Thnk every team will eventually adopt them? Let’s hear it!
Can’t we leave cheerleaders to cheer on football players… my only hope is that one of them bails so that I can laugh at them. Calgary has ice girls… and they are constantly not pushing their shovel around quick enough to get their jobs done in the TV timeouts and the rink rat guys have to keep helping them out.
On the other side… don’t guys already like hockey? Shouldn’t they be targeting more women to come by offering up scantily clad men jumping around at the intermission or pushing a shovel??
I’m just saying…
What would Maurice Richard think of “Ice Girls”? Cheerleaders should stick to football and the competitions in Florida. Women wearing next to nothing have no place in an ice rink.

Well I’m a dude and I think they are hot! Sorry for the lack of a serious comment, but all I can think is that they look good, and thats all!
Come on its a sporting event. If you have a problem with the ice girls stay home and watch corner gas. It is after all America were talking about here and this game has long since become a family event. I have no problems with ladies pushing the shovels at whatever arena. If you have a problem with it you’ve probably got bigger issues they those girls have..

When I first started seeing them (in Chicago), I figured it was just a gimmick to sell more tickets. Apparently it’s catching on in healthier markets as well, though. In Detroit, they still have a few middle aged fat dudes that do the shoveling and I don’t think the experience suffers from it one bit.
Maybe it’s because I always have shitty seats, but I really can’t make out much more than 1) they aren’t very good skaters and 2) most of them have super-bright blond hair. Still, I always look forward to seeing whether any of the goalies have a problem with them shoveling in or around the crease. As a former goalie who was somewhat superstitious, I did NOT like it when my goal-line snow was disrupted. Then again, I didn’t have any ice girls in there fucking with it.
So Brad, am I allowed, as a female, to say that players are attractive then without losing any of my hard-won street cred for actually knowing what’s going on in the game?
The way I see it, if men are allowed ice girls to ogle, I should at least be able to say someone’s got a hella good slapshot… and a pretty face.
Ehhhhh, I haven’t seen them. But I’m pretty sure it’d annoy me. I don’t even like that my college has normal cheerleaders at hockey games- it’s completely unnecessary, they are barely visible, and nobody cares. Their only purpose is to give Northeastern a smaller band at the Beanpot because they use up some of the tickets that should go to bringing more band members.
Teka, I dont see a problem with females commenting on how hot the players are because it happens all the time. I think I’ve even seen a few websites dedicated to how hot this guy and that guy are.

I think it was soon after the tampa lightning entered the league that they tried to attract fans by having cheer leaders up in the stands. It was a joke back then, and still is now.
Gawd. Cheerleaders / Ice Girls don’t belong in hockey. It’s just wrong. Don’t mess with tradition!
They won’t bring out “ice boys” during intermission in women’s hockey games, will they?

I think you’re right with the puck bunnies. They eventually learn the rules of the game just by freezing their butts off in the rink, hoping to have them warmed up later.
I’m a guy so….I don’t see the big issue. Yeah, the really don’t serve a purpose but do cheerleaders in the NFL really serve a purpose either? It’s just another piece in the Marketing Machine that has become pro sports.
I preferred the old system till I saw an ice girl get run over by a ref during a Stars / Red Wings game. We used to have a team of about 2-3 guys per end who would sweep, check the net and be off in record time (very pit crew like). They wore team windbreakers and were the same people who helped pass out prizes etc. I personally thought it was less of a distraction. Now everyone from camera guys to the color analyst pays too much attention to the ice girls. I prefer that they all focus on the game. BUT, I was very entertained a few years back when one of the not so steady girls was dropped on her butt after running into a ref. The best part was the ref was skating backwards and never saw her. She was skating forward and couldn’t get out of the way. The perfect storm. Ever since then I’ve been waiting to see it happen again. The least the teams should do is hire cute girls who can skate.
The Blackhawks did some poignant interviewing with their cheerleaders during one of the intermissions of one of the games I attended. I don’t think that was the best of ideas, but I watched the whole thing. Go WINGS!
thank GOD, there are “no trashy ice hos” for NYR… my bf and me just went to rangers vs isles game few days ago at nassau shxxhole colliseum. and i even couldn’t take a look at em when they were on the ice for doing nothing but hoing.. i just dont see a point…
i dont know why but i still love cheerleaders on NFL games, they are hot and yes,im jealous. haha :p

Ladies face it, we live in a sexist white man’s world. Anyone with a brain knows that us women would love to see a hot half naked man any day of the week. AND the thought of TWO hot men aiding the needs of one woman is a turn on to any normal hot blooded gal… its not just a man’s fantasy! But the society we live in is oppressive and thrives off of the objectification of women. You will always have girls who find self validation by men gawking at them. And you will always hear the men gawking calling them sluts and telling their own girlfriends they better not dress like that EVEN though they are enjoying the view. Essentially I think subconsciously women are viewed by most men as fun little play things unless of course you are their girlfriend/wife in which case you are to sit pretty and behave b/c men don’t want to actually date the same women they gawk at and comment on right in front of us! With the exception of those insecure men where image is everything (and they are usually no prize themselves). I wish there were smarter women in this world who didn’t let this happen so much. I wish there were more women who got disgusted with men who sleep around b/c it is just as disgusting when a guy is a dirt bag slut as it is when a woman behaves that way. It seems the better looking a woman is the more willing she is to objectify herself. I’m good looking, I work out… but I wouldn’t be caught dead at hooters flirting for money or shaking my tata’s during someones bday song. Actually I pondered it in high school but my family pretty much threatened to pull me out of there by my hair if I thought I was gonna sell tits, ass and wings for money. And although most of the hockey players are sex on a stick that is not how they are chosen to play for the team like they do with women’s sports! In this man’s world we live in men are conditioned from birth to be dirty perverted sex crazed sluts and women are conditioned to be sweet, girly little things who deny their natural urges for sex so they are “not too slutty”. Women are also conditioned to think that the better looking they are the more successful they will be… hence the world we live in. I could keep ranting but I’m going to stop b/c I have too much to say.
BY the way ladies, you should not be annoyed with the ice girls or any other hot girls for that matter. Really it is not their behavior you find annoying, it is the men’s behavior and reaction to them that we find annoying. You see… just as our boyfriend/husband/men in general don’t want to hear women… their woman particularly talk about how steamy hot some guys ass is or how much we might want to grope him it is just as ignorant, rude and slutty for a man to behave that way. If a woman gawks like that she’s acting slutty if a man gawks like that then he’s “just being a man”. If you’re with a man worth your time then he won’t care about other girls and he won’t do rude crap like that. Real men have strong minds and aren’t easily impressed by a pretty face or piece of ass and knows when he already has himself a good woman. Find yourself a real man and you’ll never find yourself jealous over some hot tramp ever again

I love men, I just feel women still have a long way to go with the whole equality thing. When we turn on the tv and see half naked men everywhere then we will know women have made some progress I guess.
