Montreal Canadiens Fans Riot

Ok, calling all the rioters Montreal Canadiens fans isn’t a true statement, but still this happened in Montreal for one specific reason, the Habs took out the Penguins last night to advance to the Eastern Conference Final. Anyone predict this? Nope! Anyone love this? WHO DOESN’T?

But ok seriously, it’s time for Montreal to learn from Edmonton’s handling of the Whyte Ave riots. It’s beyond the point of letting them go wild and do what they want. It’s time for the zero tolerance, heavy handed approach the police took in Edmonton when things started getting out of hand. Step off the sidewalk, your’re gone. Climb a tree, you’re gone. Throw anything, you’re gone. I’m sure a city the size of Montreal has the resources available to it to achieve this, but it’ll still come down to politics.

Do we let the hooligans do whatever they want, smashing and burning our city? Or do we send a hard and clear message, and then have a more controlled environment? Yeah, things in Edmonton were out of control, especially when the Oilers ousted the Ducks to head to the Stanley Cup final, but after that when the police approach changed, so did the amount of violent incidents. Do it Montreal. ANYONE that even farts in the wrong direction gets the plastic zip ties, thrown in a bus, and taken away to a safe site. Don’t let your city burn!
