Monster Schmonster!

So were like 30 seconds into the rookie training camps around the league, and already there have been about 62 billion stories about Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson.

I thought that the residents of the Center of the Universe (Toronto) would have waited a little bit before declaring him the next Roy or Brodeur. Yes a 3-1 victory is impressive, but look at who he was up against? The guy has been playing pro hockey for years now, and then gets thrown in with a bunch of 18 year olds? Yeah, it’s similar to you being at the outdoor rink and having your hometown NHL hero show up. It’s just not the same playing field.

So anyway, 1) I’m pissed that this guy is in Toronto, because I’m sure the media coverage etc would be 1% of what it is right now if the guy was in St. Louis or something. And 2) Settle down and wait for this guy to prove himself. You brought him in as a BACKUP, not the savior.

Till he proves himself, save the monster amount of media coverage.

By the way, I don’t hate Gustavsson, I just don’t agree with the way he is being touted by Burke and co in T.O.
