Joe Sakic Retires

This Thursday the NHL is set to say goodbye to one of it’s best and most popular players of the last two decades. Joe Sakic, current longest serving captain in the NHL, and the only captain the Avalanche have ever had, will announce his retirement at a press conference on July 9th at 1pm.

Sakic was always a favorite of mine, and I just loved watching him in a Team Canada jersey. He had a lethal shot, was classy, and will definitely be on his way to the hall of fame. We’re going to miss you Joe!

On a side note, Mirtle suggests that Sakic was the best BC born player of all time, but according to this database that he points us to, it looks like he was the second best in goals, assists, points, and games played, to none other than Steve Yzerman. Still, that’s not a bad name to fall behind.
