Hemsky’s D Sucks – Oilers Lose

Posted by Mother Pucker on March 24th, 2009

Tonight the Edmonton Oilers fell 3-2 to the league leading Detroit Red Wings soley due to Hemsky’s shitty defensive play. Hemmer was awful all night on the PK, and when sent out to shadow the likes of Hank or Marian, he just didn’t live up to his pest potential. Hemmer should also be embarrassed as even Steve Staios blocked more shots than him.

WAIT AN EFFIN MINUTE!

I just about went into traction this morning when I read the following quotes from Hemsky:

“I’m just trying to do exactly what they want. I’m becoming a checker”

“We’re just doing what we have to do to win games. I’m not complaining. It’s important to win the games. I just don’t feel as important as I did before when they were riding me. I don’t feel they use me as much as they did before. If they don’t give me the confidence or trust me, I will never be playing the way I was before, the way they want.”

“I’m just saying I don’t care about points. I know I didn’t play my best hockey. I can be better and I know they will need me. But they have got to show me they need me. Ride me. It’s 10 games. I will feel important and I will get better every game.”

Dear Edmonton Oilers, have you seen the following ingenious cartoon over at Oilers Nation?

Seriously, when it’s become so glaringly obvious that one of, if not your most talented player (a quiet one at that), opens up like this that it might be time for a change? Fans in Edmonton have been calling for MacT’s head for years now, this year more than ever. So much so that the police have to pay extra attention to the little area in the basement of Rexall Place where the Oilers walk past fans en-route to the dressing room. Partly to protect the players from any garbage, and also to protect the boisterous fans from MacT or Huddy if they fly off the handle. I’m starting to think it’s heavily based on the later because we all know that neither of those two would be afraid to fight almost anyone in Edmonton, or other league cities for that matter.

Anyway, seriously, I’m not the first to call for it, but I’ll be the most recent in saying that the old boys club needs to come to an end in Edmonton. Maybe Daryl Katz is blinded by love when he looks at MacT sporting the same hair style as him and can’t see all the turmoil that’s present in Edmonton..? Bullshit! Katz bought the Oilers to ice a winning team, not what’s gone on in Edmonton for the past decade plus. Time for heads to roll!

And Hemmer, stick it out for the rest of the season and pray that whoever remains in charge finds some talent to play with you. If I have to watch your talent wasted playing with first line center Horcoff for one more season I may quit watching hockey all together.
