Yeah, it's a Goal of the Year candidate, according to TSN. It's definitely a goal that looks way better than all of Sid the Kid's fancy goals put together (I'm from Nova Scotia, I can say that) but definitely not the best I've seen this year.

Yeah you guys make good points that it's not necessarily the goal of the year, but it is still a damn good one. I just picked that title because I heard one of the TSN guys say it the other night, and figured it would stir up some opnions in the comments.

i like the kid cause he has a greenhorns last name. but goal of the year???? hmmmmmmmm

even thought it doesnt look spectacular(to some), he was definitely in the zone to do what he did. even though he didnt beat a few defense men and score a goal off his back, he had to slap that puck in mid air while feelin immense pressure, and he couldnt mess up ONCE or he would lose any chance.

that was just skill, and innate ability. kinda like tiger woods bounces balls off his driver and then knocks one out. but to be able to pull it off in a game, and not in practice, that takes ballz and skill. he was in the zone.

I hope I don't get flamed to heck for this, but seriously though, goal of the year for that? While it was pretty, and something worthy of the highlight reels, it was a power play opportunity, and the goaltender had no chance. No one got undressed on that play, there was no humiliation factor either, the game was a romp. I agree with Maguire here: I'd like to see more from Tavares when it matters most, the 5-on-5.
