CBC’s Fat Ugly Girlfriend
Posted by Mother Pucker on October 25th, 2009
Prior to looking at game times for last night’s schedule I saw that the Leafs were playing in Vancouver, and also the Oilers in Calgary. I figured, as is pretty much standard practice, that both of those games would fit into the 10pm EST slot with BC and Ontario east getting the Leafs/Nucks game, and the Prairie Provinces getting the Oilers/Flames.
But whats this? The game in Vancouver is scheduled for 7pm EST (yeah, thats 4pm in Vancouver) so that both the CBC and Leafs can continue their disgusting relationship?
The poor Canadiens must be as disgusted as anyone when it comes to this fat chick romance on Canadian TV. They played an awesome game against the Rangers last night, but where was that game televised? Quebec only?! What a joke.
Yes I understand that CBC likes to show the all Canadian match-ups, but it’s time to start showing quality instead. Yes, Vancouver is worthy of HNIC, but the Leafs are anything but TV worthy right now except for me and everyone else to laugh at as they continue to lose.
Time to end the weekly make-out session between CBC and the Leafs, and start showing meaningful hockey. You say you don’t care now? Just wait until March or even February when the leafs have been eliminated from contention and CBC still shows them instead of the teams in the hunt. Enough already!

Rumor has it that next week will be the last time that the CBC will broadcast the Leafs games nationally until they have a decent showing, so you might be in luck, it was all but confirmed on Team 1040 in Vancouver that if they lost to Vancouver on Saturday night (which they did
next week would be their last nationally broadcast game.

Don’t believe everything you hear. I’ve heard those rumors for years, about as long as the Leafs have been bad. Incomprehensibly, the Leafs still get good TV ratings and advertisers pay big money for air time on shows that draw viewers. That is what ultimately decides which game gets televised nationally, not how the team is performing on the ice.
I feel like CBC should hold rights to only two saturday night games. One early, one late. Let TSN show the other. We’re all canadians, and we all love hockey! Everyone should be able to watch their team of choice on saturdays without paying for center ice, or whatever. This split network stuff sucks.
If CBC booting Toronto off the national broadcast means that I no longer have to listen to Jim Hughson while watching a Leaf game, I fully support this move.
We want Bob Cole!
The Leafs won’t leave CBC’s broadcast so long as more people are willing to watch them. If you really want to get rid of the Leafs, convince every single person you know to put at least one TV on in their house during the Saturday night games and have it tuned to the secondary game. Short of that, shut up with your whining and actually do something about it. Or just shut it period. Damn whiners.
so showing 2 all-canadian match-ups is a bad thing now? give me a break.
as for ‘meaningful’ hockey….last season was the first time in probably 10 years that the leafs march and april games were truly meaningless. there were late-season playoff pushes in each of the first 3 years after the lockout. and when this season’s schedule was set, a lot of people thought the leafs were going to be a much-improved team this year. no one was calling an 8-game losing streak to start the season.
and the leafs were the best canadian team from 1993-2004. read this link if you don’t believe me.

You refer to the Leafs as the fat ugly girlfriend, but you’re the ones bitching and moaning like a scorned wife.
Too much anger isn’t good for you, y’know.
Hey, azure_moak, don’t believe everything you hear on a Vancouver media outlet. In fact, don’t believe anything at all you hear there- they are deeply and completely obsessed with all things Toronto, and their so-called reporting will always reflect that. CBC will never, ever put the Leafs in the second slot, because of those little things called ratings and ad revenue. We’re far and away the biggest draw, so suck it up and get used to it. By the way, your constant negative obsession makes you the ugly stalker and Toronto the gorgeous girl who dumped your sorry ass.
