Canada vs. Norway

There wasn’t much doubt that Canada was going to take this one when the schedule came out, but I could give two you know whats because I’m still going to watch every game, big-ticket or not. Alright, getting back to this game I have to say right off the start, both Nick Kypreos and Pierre McGuire are still idiots. I was crossing my fingers that those two twits wouldn’t be a part of the CTV broadcasts, but apparently I needed to cross my toes, and my friends needed to cross everything as well for that wish to come true. So now we’re stuck with them… my solution is that I’m not going to watch the intermissions, and do my best to zone out McGuire’s babbling during the game. What were they doing so wrong? Kypreos was so negative after the first period it was embarrassing. Ohhh Canada doesn’t look good, Ooooh I’d be worried, Oooohh I’m a 7th defencemen that has a Stanley Cup ring even though I hardly got to play in the playoffs, Ooooh I got knocked the eff out and ended my career, Ooooh I’m only in broadcasting because I still have my hair…
Alright enough about those two, as Allan from The Hangover would say, rahTARDS.
Obviously I’m jacked about watching Olympic hockey, but still I think Canada played a good game from start to finish. Do you expect a bunch of guys that may have played up until Sunday night with their NHL teams to automatically mesh together in the first 20 minutes? It wasn’t likely to happen, and didn’t really, but it was to be expected so who gives a flying one that they didn’t get any goals in the first? Not this guy.
What did I like? Pretty much everything is a broad statement, but I figure it covers it off pretty well. Heatley unleashed his wicked shot resulting in two goals, and then there was Iginla, still my pick for captain, with a hat trick to open the tournament. As you know I’m sitting on an airplane on my way from Edmonton to Toronto, and after Iggy scored I threw my hat around the plane in hopes that other passengers would follow. My hat got whipped around a few more times by fans with a sense of humour, but once landing on a geriatric’s lap the gig was up…
Luongo looked pretty good for the most part. There were a few times where he just went butterfly and you could tell he had no idea where the puck went, but regardless a shutout is a shutout.
For some off-ice action, Spruce Grove cutie, Jennifer Heil was in attendance after receiving tickets from Mike Babcock. Apparently, according to McGuire, they are both McGill University alumni, so thats how she got the tickets. If Babcock is single I think it’ll have nothing to do with McGill and more to do with Heil being an ultra cutie. Also in attendance, and no surprise at all was Wayne Gretzky. The Great One stated that he would stay in Vancouver as long as Team Canada kept on rolling. Gretz, I think you’re going to be there right till the end.
I think the Canadians played a great game, and are looking strong heading into Thursday’s game against Switzerland, and then the Americans on Sunday. Oh man is Sunday going to be a beauty!

I think I will have to agree with most of your comments (although I’m starting to feel like one of the only people that doesn’t actually mind Kyprios or McGuire). It was absolutely fantastic to see not only the quality of talent on that team playing together, but doing it so well. Some of those lines gelled so well that you just can’t wait to watch the next game. The quality of hockey the Canadians put up was nearly flawless. There weren’t really that many glaring mistakes in the game that would usually make me cringe, as you may know the feeling watching the Oilers.
Watching that Crosby, Iginla, Nash line almost makes a person wish they could see them play all the time. San Jose is probably one of the luckiest teams out there as that Thornton, Marleau and Heatley line were stellar. The best part is they already have nearly a full season of building chemistry together.
Doughty was very noticeable on the ice and played very well keeping pressure in the attacking zone. Him and the rest of the team did an excellent job clogging the defensive zone, preventing any real dangerous shots from making their way to Louie.
All in all, fantastic. I can’t wait till the next game.
Yeah we’re pretty much in the same boat. I think I forgot to mention Doughty for whatever reason but he was a standout on the D. TAVEZ as well on O.
