Beer Prices and More in NHL Arenas
Tweet Posted by Mother Pucker on October 14th, 2008Unfortunately I’m not at a computer with any kind of graphics editing software on it, so I can’t change the image to the left to say “Helping shitty teams look good since 1862″, but simply stating it helps me get into this post on beer prices in NHL arenas.
Team Marketing Report has released their report (pdf) for the 2008-2009 NHL season, and have broken down what costs what in all of the NHL arenas. Through this report you can get detailed information on ticket averages, beer, soft drinks, hot dogs, parking, programs, and hats.
Since I posted last week about the Herion Beers that are served at certain arenas around the NHL, I may as well continue on and help the readers find the lowest priced heroin around the league. I am unable to verify all the prices around the league, so am trusting that this report is correct. Now here are the top five highest and lowest priced arenas in price per ounce of beer:
Top 5
- $0.56/oz in Nashville
- $0.48/oz in Philly
- $0.44/oz in Boston
- $0.44/oz in New Jersey
- $0.42/oz in Edmonton
Bottom 5
- $0.31/oz in NY (Rangers)
- $0.30/oz in Columbus
- $0.29/oz in Atlanta
- $0.28/oz in Washington
- $0.25/oz in Pittsburgh
I find the most expensive arena in Nashville, and the cheapest arena in Pittsburgh to be huge surprises. Before looking at this list, I would have flipped them around if I had to predict who had the more expensive beer. I’m also surprised that the NY Rangers have the 5th cheapest beer in the NHL. With ticket prices and that high falutin style in the big apple, I thought they would have been at the top of the league.
Now, for the real stats that you all care about, its time to declare Calgary as the cheapest place in the NHL to get your heroin fix, as their beer costs a mere $0.41/oz, while street level heroin will put you back a whopping $5,628/oz. So word of advice kids. Next time you’re at a game, and think that beer coming out of rusty old pipes isn’t worth it, compare it to the price you’d be paying on the street and be glad your team is being so generous.

So I decided to figure out what the best deal is relative to how well the team is doing. Used last year’s standings and playoff performance since this year is so young yet.

Pittsburgh is still #1 and Nashville is still #30, but poor Philly, not even a playoff berth and advancing two rounds in the playoffs can save you from your overpriced beer.
Thanks for the inspiration!
I would love to see where the hell you can buy a beer for $4.97 (or whatever that is in CDN$) in the Saddledome… I saw nothing less than $7.00 when my Canucks kicked the Flames asses on the weekend…
Carmen:
That chart says that a 12oz. beer in Calgary is $4.97. Is it possible that the beers you saw for $7.00 were larger than that?
They list the 16oz beers in Detroit at $6.00 but I know I was paying $8.50 for the 24oz size.
Jason(X-Tra), thats a great idea! Thanks for breaking it down for us even further!
Carmen and Jason,
Yeah I think there may be some discrepencies in that list, but you also have to take into account the US$ and CDN$ thing. Beers in Edmonton are $7.75 Canadian, but according to the exchange rate they used in that report, they are worth $6.75 US.
Looks like Jason over at X-Tra Rant put together a google spreadsheet to back up his findings:

HaHaha those stats are a joke. In Toronto Canada the cost of a large beer is $13.00 Canadian. There’s no team in the league that charges that much. We also have the most expensive ticket price’s!!!
