Prison Uniform Night!

Fresh off the heels of the Montreal Canadiens’ debut of their prison inmate/barbershop pole retro jerseys, a couple of teams in the ECHL took that look a step further by holding a “Rod Blagojevich Prison Uniform Night”.

It seems like this was a pretty popular move among fans, though I couldn’t find any information regarding an increase in ticket sales. Two guys even went in on an Ebay auction for a pair of seats in between the two benches. Winning bid: $517.

This brings up an interesting question. Should NHL teams that are struggling to fill seats (Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, etc.) resort to gimmicks like this? Would it cheapen the game too much? Would it even draw in fans? I personally don’t want to see this happen, but some franchises undoubtedly need any and all the help they can get.
