Jimmy Howard’s 24th Straight Game

Posted by Mother Pucker on March 30th, 2010

Tonight will mark Jimmy Howard's 24th straight game, tying him with Roy Edwards (1967) for the longest run for a rookie goalie. I knew Howard had been going for a long time, but 24 straight just seems unreal, even for a rookie! If, when, (they're gonna right?), the Wings make the playoffs, I think Howard has to be the top choice for the Calder. Good luck man!

Don’t Ruin the NHL Winter Classic

Posted by Mother Pucker on March 29th, 2010

Dear NHL,I've been reading about the push for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals to face off in next years NHL Winter Classic, and I have to oppose this game for a few reasons:1) The Penguins have already played in one.2) The Penguins have already played in one.3) The Penguins have already played in one.I'm not anti penguins, but I'm completely against the Penguins playing in the classic again. Yes, those teams have the biggest "stars" in the league, but that shouldn't be what this is all about. The teams that have taken part so far are the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens,

History Will Be Made

Posted by Mother Pucker on March 28th, 2010

Ok, I LOVE the new Stanley Cup Playoffs commercials titled History Will Be Made. I've seen the first Bobby Orr one a couple of times on TV, and just found the Mario Lemieux one as well. I remember watching that Lemiuex one live and just about falling off my couch. Here they are in case you haven't seen them, or want to watch them again and again like I've been doing.

NHL Vault – Classic NHL Games Online

Posted by Mother Pucker on March 27th, 2010

The NHL's most recent addition to online streaming hockey games is that of NHL Vault which launched today. For $4.95 a month you can watch classic games from the 60's - now, catch up on last night's highlights, and watch full replays from 2007 and beyond.Does this interest you? I imagine if you didn't have a TV and couldn't watch the daily sports highlights this would be a good option. Far cheaper than cable for someone like me that only watches sports channels anyway. Add all the free streaming NHL hockey options out there, and this could be a decent combo. Thoughts?

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Flyers for winning the Presidents Trophy last night in a neck and neck race with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The regular season seemed to turn into a battle between those two teams, but if history has anything to say to us, being a top seed doesn't guarantee that you're going to coast through the playoffs. Just ask Tara McCool and Lisa from the twitter hockey hotties competition, who were seeds 14 and 11, but ended up making it to the finals.I have to agree with a commenter Dan from the first round who stated:"I think the Eastern Conference is well represented a

Ever find yourself watching a game on tv, or even being at a game and thinking, "God, this team's fans have to be the worst in the league!" I do all the time, so why not settle this once and for all? Here are some reasons that I can think of off the top of my head: Their fans invade your city and boo your home team. They constantly fight in the stands. They feel superior to everyone else, not just the teams, everyone. They boo the national anthems. They are ignorant to the rules. And on and on... Whatever your reason is for hating their fans, let's start off voting for all 30 NHL teams to se
