Ok well not quite, but pretty damn close. 20km from the border close! Anyway, I found this awesome stats site that has a map with birthplaces of past and present NHL players. Go have a look and see where you can find the weirdest birthplace for a NHL player. My faves so far are Mogilny, Grigorijs Pantelejevs, Andrei Nikolishin, & Zac Boyer.

Can I come over and play?

Posted by Mother Pucker on November 23rd, 2009

Dear Mr. Katz, Your team is in serious trouble right now, but don't let that fool you into thinking that all of us (Oilers, and any hockey fans for that matter) would like to be your friend. Whadd'ya say? Can we come over and play on your outdoor rink overlooking the river valley? How about that pool that probably runs year round even though it's going to be -30 soon? And yeah, if we get drunk I'm sure you can find a spare couch or something for us in a dark back corner of the basement that we can crash on, right? I'll be waiting for my invite. Sincerely, Mother Pucker

Detroit’s No Goal Call

Posted by Mother Pucker on November 19th, 2009

I've touched on this topic last season when the Blues got ripped off by the when the ref intends to blow the whistle rule, and now it's come up again this season. I just read the article over at nhl.com where NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy explains why Brad May's goal in last nights Wings/Stars game was not reviewed. Here is a quick recap: "bla bla bla it's this rule and that rule and bla bla bla and bla bla bla." Finally it ends with, "internalize and see if we can come up with a better solution or a better answer." What do you need to internalize for? I h

Battle Of The Blades Finale

Posted by Mother Pucker on November 14th, 2009

This weekend is going to mark the finale of CBC's most popular show ever. Yes, even more so than the Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada every weekend ;) For those of you that haven't been following along, eight pairs of female figure skaters and male hockey players were teamed up, and have been performing each Sunday, with elimination rounds the following Monday night. Going into the final weekend we have Lemieux and Bourne, Richer and Dubreuil, and Simpson and Sale as the remaining three. There were only supposed to be two teams, but Dubreuil injured her back last week and was unable to s

Hockey Remembrance Day

Posted by Mother Pucker on November 11th, 2009

This post at exactly the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is to commemorate the hockey players that fell during World War I and World War II. I know this can't possibly be a concise list as surely there are more than three, but it's the best that I can dig up. If anyone else has additions, place them in the comments, and I'll update the post with them. Now, take a moment of silence and remember the hockey players, and other war heros that provided us with the lifestyle that we live today. Not old enough to remember what went on and what could have been without those Canadian sold

Flames Jump H1N1 Line Thumbnail

Flames Jump H1N1 Line

Posted by Mother Pucker on November 4th, 2009

Yeah this is old news, as old as yesterday, but it's still getting on my nerves. It has nothing to do with it being the Calgary Flames, it could have been any team that did this and I would feel the same way. If you didn't hear the story, the Flames somehow jumped the line last Friday and were able to get the H1N1 vaccination ahead of a lot of others. Their families, coaches, and training staff also took part in the line jumping incident. The government said that if it did actually happen (the team getting it before anyone else had a chance, especially with the shortages) that it was a mist
