Forsberg is a band-aid

forsbergisabandaidPeter Forsberg is a band-aid. Do I need to write any more?

Well I better explain a little more. He is trying to make a comeback yet again, and has yet again injured himself. This time it’s a stress fracture in his oft-injured foot. “I can hardly walk, but it feels OK when I skate.”

So what does that mean? You going to hire someone to push you around in a wheelchair 20/7 when you aren’t skating 4/7?

Anyway I’m sure I’m not the only one that says it’s time for Peter Forsberg the band-aid to just pack it in. You’re done.

So, what the hell happened?

broken_macOk so if you’ve been following along for the last little while, you’re well aware that the site went through some turmoil towards the end of last week. Instead of tweeting it again and again (hey, it doesn’t fit in 140 characters anyway), I’ll lay it all out here.

Basically my former web host, Hostmonster, completely screwed me and this website. Yeah yeah yeah, I know this might sound like whining, but I’m still going to get this off my chest. Read more

Who will win what this year?

Art Ross trophyWell with only a few more days to go before the season starts (woo hoo!) it’s time to make a few predictions on the individual awards this season. I’ve spoken with a few people on this one, and also just finished reading the latest edition of The Hockey News, and pretty  much narrowed down my picks.

First off we have the Hart Trophy. Last year Ovechkin won in a landslide, and I don’t predict anything different this year. The guy is an absolute machine, and I have no doubt will clean up big-time at the 09/10 NHL awards ceremony. Why pick him? Because he is the show. He isn’t part of a tandem (pittsburgh), and wins this one for sure.

Let’s make this simple. How about going through all the hardware that Ovi will take home this season: Rocket Richard (the guy is a goal scoring machine), and also the Art Ross. Some say that Crosby or Malkin will take this, but I think that the support cast in Washington will step up even more this year and give Ovi a few extra points in the “A” column.

Vezina is kind of a tough one. The hockey news says that Luongo is the lock, but I’m a big fan of Steve Mason and I think that he will make a major push. Yeah Luongo is good, but how long can he continue to carry that team before another burnout/meltdown? My pick: Mason.

The Hockey News gives the Norris to Zdeno Chara, but I have to give Mike Green the benefit of the doubt on this one. No I’m not a huge Washington fan, I just think that their players will be able to get it done this year.

Calder will probably go to Tavares due to point production staring everyone in the face, but I’d like to think that Hedman will be the better player down in Tampa. Why? Who does Tavares have to play with vs. Hedman? Yeah, I give this one to Hedman.

Yeah I know I missed a few awards, but these are the big ones that most everyone seems to be concerned with. Now what do you think? Any of my, or the hockey news’ picks way off?

Yeah, what the hell is right! There was a MAJOR disruption in the site this morning, and I’m working hard to try and straighten it out right now. I’ll get into more detail about what happened later on… till then enjoy the crappy layout or errors or both or just stay away until tomorrow ;)

Fleury Lights Up the Saddledome

Well he didn’t exactly light it up on the score sheet, but Fleury still turned the crowd into a frenzy last night with the shootout winner.

After scoring, the crowd chanted his name, and Fleury responded with, “It was obviously special to have your name chanted like that. It was fun to be back in the ‘dome.”

Special? No kidding! I can’t imagine having my name chanted by a packed house!

Post game comments from Theo: “That was pretty exciting. It was fun, it was a fun game to be in. I have played in a lot of big hockey games before and this was one that was special for everybody that has been a fan of mine or cheered for me in the past. The way my life has gone, it doesn’t surprise me that it went to the shootout and I got a chance.”

Anyway, after talking with a few people that were at the game, or at least watched it on TV,it sounds like Fleury started out a little shaky, but slowly improved as the game went on. Definitely not an all-star performance, but I still think that he is worthy of a mention for even attempting this comeback. Good job Theo!

Dion Phaneuf Hammers Kyle Okposo

It’s pretty well known that I’m not a fan of Dion Phaneuf, but I have to dedicate this post to him to find out what everyone else thinks.

Tonight he dished out a massive hit on Kyle Okposo of the NY Islanders in the neutral zone, and I’ve heard everything from “Phaneuf is a beauty checker!” to “That was some dirty shit!” to “Meh, Okposo had his head down.”

There is a good quality version of this clip available at RDS. Just click on HOCKEY and then on “Integrale: Dion Phaneuf ecrase Kyle Okposo.”

Alternatively, and probably easier, here is a youtube clip:

What do you think of this? Think Phaneuf has learned something from watching old Marchment clips? Was it a blatant charge and intent to injure? Did he leave his feet? Did Okposo just get caught with his head down?

My take:

  • That was most definitely a charge
  • It must have been 2″ before contact was made, but Phaneuf was definitely moving in an upward direction
  • Okposo did have his head down
  • Phaneuf yet again proved that he is a true heavyweight by FIGHTING WITH HIS GLOVES ON

Can you imagine how much different this site would look if I hired this guy to do my logo? Anyway I found this while doing a google image search for “mother pucker” and all I can say is whoa! Thanks to the illustrator for whipping this thing up (obviously not for me, but it has the same name), but I’ll stick with my current logo etc :)
